Signs Replacement Is More Reliable
Multiple large cracks, sections that have shifted vertically, sinking near the garage or curb, exposed subgrade and widespread scaling usually mean the underlying base or the slab itself has failed. Patching those symptoms rarely lasts.
Age and Overall Condition
Older driveways with many small problems often add up to more repair cost than a single replacement would. If you would need to fix the same driveway again within a few years, replacement can be the more economical decision.
Drainage as a Deciding Factor
If water pools on the driveway or drains toward the house, replacement gives you the chance to fix slope and grade at the same time. Repairs alone cannot correct a driveway that was poured with the wrong pitch.
